The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that the ongoing conflict in Syria has displaced at least 370,000 individuals, including men, women, and children, boys and girls, with 100,000 of them having been forced to flee their homes multiple times.

Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, in his daily press briefing said that most of the displaced are women and children. “Tens of thousands of people have now arrived in north-east Syria.”

According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and NGOs operating in the north-east, between 60,000 and 80,000 people have been newly displaced, including more than 25,000 currently hosted in shelters.

These shelters are quickly reaching capacity as soon as they are assigned. As these sites have reached capacity, many are forced to sleep on the streets or in their cars, facing freezing temperatures as winter approaches.

The UN, in collaboration with our humanitarian partners in the north-east, is assessing the needs of families who have arrived at reception centres.
