On September 8, 2025, the sixth session of India-New Zealand Foreign Office Consultations took place in New Delhi. Grahame Morton, Deputy Secretary – Americas and Asia Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, headed the New Zealand mission, while Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South), Ministry of External Affairs, led the Indian group.
Defense and security, trade and investment, education, agriculture, traditional medicine, customs, mobility, climate change, sports, and people-to-people ties were all areas of the bilateral relationship that were evaluated by both parties.
They also evaluated the status of agreements and declarations made during New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s official March 2025 visit to India.
There was also agreement to further strengthen collaboration in regional and multilateral fora, such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and the Indo-Pacific.
Maintaining frequent high-level interactions and institutional procedures was agreed upon by both parties. At a time that works for both parties, the next round of consultations will take place in Wellington.
This FOC also gave an opportunity to follow up on the conversations established during Foreign Minister of New Zealand Rt. Hon Winston Peter’s visit to India in May 2025.
With the visits of President in August 2024 and the Prime Minister of New Zealand in March 2025, our relationship with New Zealand has recently become more intense.
