The casualities from a powerful blast at Iran’s largest port of Bandar Abbas has surged to around 40 killed, with over 1200 people wounded, according to state media report on Sunday, as firefighters operated to completely extinguish the fire.
Saturday’s explosion, which authorities say was likely caused by chemical substances, occured in the Shahid Rajaee section of the port – Iran’s largest container center.
The force of the blast smashed windows for numerous kilometres near by Bandar Abbas, which is situated close to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, splitting metal tears off shipping containers and bluntly devastating goods placed inside, according to state media reports.
Crisis management organisation of Iran stated that of the 752 individuals who had received treatment for their injuries, 190 were still undergoing care in medical centres.
Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister stated, during a visit the site, TV 80% of the fire had been extinguished by Sunday morning and firefighting efforts would persists for several many hours.

The event happened as Iran started a third phase of nuclear discussions with the U.S. in Oman, but there was no signal of a connection between the two incidents.
A sequence of horrible events has hit Iran’s energy and industrial infrastructure in current years, with several criticized on ignorance.
In 2023, incidents included refinery fires, a gas explosion at a coal mine, and an emergency repair event at Bandar Abbas that resulted one worker dead.
Iran has blamed several other events on its arch-foe Israel, which has launched attacks on Iran’s soil targeting country’s nuclear programme in current years and previous year bombed the Iran’s air defences. (Forelines)
