(Forelines) – From September 1–3, 2025, the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Johann Wadephul, formal visit to India. As German Foreign Minister, this is his first official trip to India, Ministry of External Affairs of India said in a Statement.
On September 3, 2025, Foreign Minister Wadephul visited the Prime Minister and had delegation-level discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar (EAM). In New Delhi, he also had a meeting with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal.
A high-level business delegation followed Minister Wadephul on this visit, demonstrating the quickly growing commercial ties between Germany and India.
In their review of our multifaceted Strategic Partnership, EAM and Foreign Minister Wadephul expressed satisfaction with the progress made in a variety of areas, such as trade and investment, defense and security, technology, science and innovation, education, partnerships for green and sustainable development, and people-to-people relationships.
To further encourage student exchanges and educational linkages, the two sides agreed on free visas for brief school and college visits between our nations.
The Middle East crisis, cooperation in the Indo-Pacific area, recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and other regional and international matters of shared concern were also reviewed by the two parties.
Establishing a new bilateral consultation mechanism on the Indo-Pacific region is another goal shared by both parties. EAM expressed gratitude to the German government for its unwavering support and solidarity with India in the battle against terrorism.
On September 02, 2025, Foreign Minister Wadephul and his group visited important innovation and technology clusters in Bengaluru, where they engaged with German companies that have a substantial presence in India.
Interactions included meetings with well-known Indian institutions like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Opportunities for improved cooperation in fields like green technology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, space cooperation, and sustainable urban development were brought to light during the visit to Bengaluru.
India and Germany’s Strategic Partnership, which is founded on mutual trust, shared democratic values, a commitment to global security, and sustainable development, is celebrating its 25th anniversary at the time of the visit.
