The Pakistan‘s government has announced plans to take firm action against the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its leadership. This decision follows a high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in response to the PTI’s recent march on Islamabad, which escalated into violence, as reported by Dawn.
The government has described the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a party of “anarchists and saboteurs” and intends to file cases against several PTI leaders, including Bushra Bibi, the wife of Imran Khan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The charges are linked to the deaths of security personnel and the violent attack on the federal capital during the PTI’s recent march.
The decisions were made during a high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with participation from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, federal ministers, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, and senior security officials. The meeting aimed to reinforce institutions and prevent future “anti-state protests,” according to the Dawn report.
Additionally, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has formed a task force led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to identify those people were involved in the violent protests. The task force includes Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and officials from various security agencies.
As per official press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif established a task force under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi to identify the people involved in spreading chaos and violence in Islamabad earlier this week and take strict action against them.”
The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, also announced the creation of a Federal Riot-Control Force to prevent future attempts to incite chaos and violence in the country. The force will receive professional training and be equipped according to international standards.
As per The Dawn, the meeting also decided to establish a Federal Forensic Lab, where modern technology will be used to investigate and gather evidence related to such incidents.
The three-day protest in Islamabad began on November 24, with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters marching from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the capital. The protest had three main demands: the restoration of what they claim is the party’s “stolen mandate” from the February elections, the release of political prisoners, including Imran Khan, and the reversal of a constitutional amendment that gives the government control over judicial appointments, according to Al Jazeera.
