(Forelines)– Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump were scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. However, this meeting was unable to happen since President Trump had to return to the United States early.

Following this, both leaders had a phone conversation today at the request of U.S. President Trump. About thirty-five minutes passed during the conversation.

Following the April 22 terrorist assault in Pahalgam, President Trump called Prime Minister Modi to offer his condolences. Additionally, he stated his support for the fight against terrorism. The two leaders have not spoken to one other since.

Prime Minister Modi therefore discussed Operation Sindoor in great detail with President Trump.

Prime Minister Modi made it apparent to President Trump that India had made it known to the world that it was determined to fight terrorism after April 22.

“Prime Minister Modi said that on the night of May 6-7, India had only targeted the terrorist camps and hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. India’s actions were very measured, precise, and non-escalatory. India had also made it clear that any act of aggression from Pakistan would be met with a stronger response,” Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated in a press statement.

“On the night of May 9, Vice President Vance had made a phone call to Prime Minister Modi. Vice President Vance had conveyed that Pakistan may launch a major attack on India. Prime Minister Modi had conveyed to him in clear terms that if such an action were to occur, India would respond with an even stronger response,” Vikram Misri added.

“On the night of May 9-10, India gave a strong and decisive response to Pakistan’s attack, inflicting significant damage on the Pakistani military. Their military airbases were rendered inoperable. Due to India’s firm action, Pakistan was compelled to request a cessation of military operations,” he further added.

“Prime Minister Modi clearly conveyed to President Trump that at no point during this entire sequence of events was there any discussion, at any level, on an India-U.S. Trade Deal, or any proposal for a mediation by the U.S. between India and Pakistan,” Misri said in a statement.

“The discussion to cease military action took place directly between India and Pakistan through the existing channels of communication between the two armed forces, and it was initiated at Pakistan’s request. Prime Minister Modi firmly stated that India does not and will never accept mediation. There is complete political consensus in India on this matter, he further stated.

After giving careful consideration to the Prime Minister’s arguments, President Trump said he supported India’s efforts to combat terrorism. Prime Minister Modi added that India’s Operation Sindoor is still under progress and that the country no longer sees terrorism as a proxy conflict but rather as a battle in and of itself.

President Trump asked Prime Minister Modi if he could make a stop in the United States on his way back from Canada. Prime Minister Modi stated that he was unable to do so because of previous obligations. It was decided by both leaders to try to meet soon.

Prime Minister Modi and President Trump also talked about the ongoing Israeli-Iranian tension.

Both leaders concurred that direct communication between the two sides is crucial to bringing about peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and that ongoing efforts should be made to make this possible.

“With regard to the Indo-Pacific region, both leaders shared their perspectives and expressed their support towards the significant role of QUAD in the region. Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to President Trump to visit India for the next QUAD Summit. President Trump accepted the invitation and said that he is looking forward to visiting India, Vikram Misri said.

According to Reuters report, citing White House official on Wednesday that President Trump had spoken with PM Modi on Tuesday, without giving informations of the call.

Islamabad has previously stated, quoted by Reuters that the ceasefire occurred following its military returned a call the India’s military had initiated on May 7.
