(Forelines) – The Polish defense minister stated, cited by Reuters on Tuesday that Poland and the PGZ-Narew collaboration had signed a 5.8 billion zloty ($1.6 billion) deal for 46 passive-location radars for short-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems.
Due to what it claims is a greater danger from Russia, Poland has been spending heavily on defense and intends to spend 4.8% of GDP on defense in 2026, Reuters added.
“The radar contract is an investment in Polish security, but also in our economy. These radars will enhance the security of our airspace. This is a priority for us,” Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Polish Defence Minister stated, quoted by Reuters.
According to Reuters, citing defense ministry, the radars would allow for efficient anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense as well as ongoing space observation.
As per Reuters, under the direction of the state-controlled Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), a group of Polish defense businesses called PGZ-Narew is working together to develop the Polish short-range air and missile defense system, Narew.
The agreement was signed throughout the International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce, central Poland.
