(Forelines) – British interior minister Shabana Mahmood announced, quoted by Reuters on Sunday that homeland ministers from the United States, Britain, and the other “Five Eyes” alliance will unveil fresh plans this week to strengthen border security and combat people smugglers.
As per Reuters, citing Britain‘s Home Office, the ministers from the Five Eyes information sharing network—the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand—will meet in London on Monday and Tuesday. The talks will center on how to “smash illicit smuggling organizations.”
After Prime Minister Keir Starmer reorganized his cabinet on Friday, Mahmood was appointed to her position. “We will agree new measures to safeguard our borders with our Five Eyes partners, punishing people smugglers hard,” she stated, Reuters quoted.
With U.S. President Donald Trump making a crackdown on both legal and illegal immigration a key component of his second term in office, nations all over the world are struggling with how to handle the migration issue, as per the report.
According to Reuters, with rivals putting a lot of pressure on the government to handle a record number of asylum claims and migrant arrivals across the Channel in small boats, it has emerged as the most important political issue in Britain.
New Zealand’s Judith Collins, Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke, Canada’s Gary Anandasangaree, and Kristi Noem, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary will join Mahmood for the discussions.
The group will talk about ways to prevent the spread of lethal synthetic opioids and new ways to combat individuals responsible for child sexual abuse online, in addition to people smuggling. as per Reuters, quoting the Home Office stated.
