The majority of the world’s fresh water come from mountains.

According to UNESCO, 50 – 60 percent world’s annual fresh water flows come from mountains.
They preserve water as ice and snow and sustaining billions of people across the globe.

Approximately, 2/3 of irrigated agriculture relies on mountain waters. These sources are crucial for security of food.

Around 24 percent of the world’s landsurface is covered by mountain areas. They sustain wide – ranging ecosystems and cultures, as per UNESCO.

Additionally, 40 percent of mountain regions are covered by forest, controlling water flow. Without them, water scarcity and natural hazards rise.

However, By 2100, mountain glaciars across the globe are expected to lose between 26 percent – 41 percent of their total mass, interrupting water cycle and the water supplies are putting at risk.

So, preserving mountains is essential for safeguarding our water. (Forelines)
