Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, following a call with U.S. President Trump on Monday, stated that efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine were on the right track and that Russia was ready to coordinate with Kyiv on a memorandum about future peace accord.

Russia’s President Putin thanked U.S. President Trump for supporting the resumption of direct discussions between Russia and Ukraine, and stated that Donald Trump noted Russia’s backing for peace, though the significant question was how to move towards peace.

“We have agreed with the president of the United States that Russia will propose and is ready to work with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum on a possible future peace accord, defining a number of positions, such as, for example, the principles of settlement, the timing of a possible peace agreement,” Russia’s President Putin said reporters around the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

If appropriate deals are reached, then there could be a truce, Vladimir Putin stated, adding that direct discussions between Moscow and Kyiv “gives reason to believe that we are generally on the right track.”

“I would like to note that, on the whole, Russia’s position is clear. The main thing for us is to eliminate the root causes of this crisis,” Vladimir Putin stated. “We just need to determine the most effective ways to move towards peace.” (Forelines)
