(Forelines) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation Thursday in which the two leaders agreed that de-escalation was necessary and denounced Israel for its assault on Iran, according to the Reuters report, citing Kremlin.

Putin and Xi “strongly condemn Israel’s actions, which violate the U.N. Charter and other norms of international law,” Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said to reporters, quoted by Reuters.

Both Beijing and Moscow firmly think that the existing state of affairs and the problems surrounding Iran’s nuclear program cannot be resolved militarily.

According to Reuters, citing Ushakov, “This solution must be achieved exclusively through political and diplomatic means.”

Russia has urged the United States not to join Israel’s bombardment and has threatened apocalypse if the Israel-Iran crisis, which is currently in its seventh day, worsens.

In recent days, Russian President Vladimir Putin has communicated with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, and U.S. President Donald Trump. Putin has stated time and again that Russia is prepared to arbitrate between the warring parties.

No one has accepted Russia’s offer thus far.

In a phone conversation with close ally Xi on Thursday, Putin restated that claim.

The Chinese leader endorsed the concept. as per Reuters, quoting Ushakov “as he believes it could serve to de-escalate the current acute situation.”

The Both men accepted to keep in close contact in the upcoming days.
