(Forelines) – On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that when he meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping in four weeks, soybeans will be a key topic of conversation, according to Reuters.

Trump said on Truth Social quoted by Reuters that “China is, for ‘negotiating’ reasons solely, not buying, which is hurting our country’s soybean farmers.”

The trade conflict between Washington and Beijing has prevented Chinese importers from purchasing soybeans from the autumn U.S. crop, costing American farmers billions of dollars in lost sales, as per Report.

As farmers bring in fresh crops from their fields and international buyers wait for top-supplier Brazil to harvest its next crop, the fall is often the best time of year to export U.S. soybeans, Reuters reported.

According to Reuters, Soybean futures at the Chicago Board of Trade are under pressure as China, the world’s largest importer of soybeans, has shifted to South America for supply while avoiding U.S. products.

During a phone conversation last month, Trump said that he and Xi had made headway on a TikTok deal and that they would next meet in person in South Korea to talk about trade, illegal drugs, and Russia’s war in Ukraine.
