(Forelines) – Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to the Ukrainian president, announced Wednesday that he and Rustem Umerov, the head of the security council, were in Riyadh in preparation for meetings with U.S. administration officials in New York later this week, as per Reuters report.
The talks in Riyadh focused on how to bring about peace in Ukraine and Saudi Arabia’s role in this process, according to Yermak, who posted on the Telegram messaging app, Reuters cited.
According to Reuters, cited Yermak, they had meetings with the national security adviser and the Saudi defense minister.
As per Reuters, later in his nocturnal video message, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that the group would meet in Switzerland on Thursday to discuss the matter. They will go to New York on Friday to meet with U.S. administration officials.
On Tuesday, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said, cited by Reuters that he would meet with Ukrainian authorities in New York this week and that Washington is still in contact with Russia.
Zelenskiy stated, Reuters quoted on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin might have discussions in Turkey, the Gulf states, or Europe.
