(Forelines) – On Saturday, as per the officials in Ankara, quoted by Reuters that Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan wrote to Melania Trump, the wife of United States President Donald Trump, urging her to speak with Israel’s prime minister and bring up the situation of children in Gaza.
As per Reuters, citing Emine Erdogan that Melania Trump’s letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this month regarding children in Russia and Ukraine had served as her inspiration.
“I have faith that the important sensitivity you have shown for the 648 Ukrainian children … will be extended to Gaza as well,”, according to Reuters, quoting Emine Erdogan wrote in the letter released by the Turkish presidency on Friday.
The White House did not respond instantly to a request for comment, as per the report.
“These days, when the world is experiencing a collective awakening and the recognition of Palestine has become a global will. I believe that your call on behalf of Gaza would fulfil a historic responsibility toward the Palestinian people,” Emine Erdogan’s letter further stated, Reuters cited.
The official declaration of famine in Gaza City and the surrounding areas by a global hunger monitor on Friday is expected to spread, increasing pressure on Israel to permit more aid to enter the Palestinian enclave, Reuters added.
According to Reuters report, Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, called the article a “outright falsehood” and asserted that Israel’s aim was to prevent starvation rather than cause it.
As per to Israeli estimates, Hamas killed 1,200 people in southern Israel and captured about 250 captives on October 7, 2023, which set off the Gaza war. According to Gaza health officials, Israel’s military operation has since killed over 62,000 Palestinians.
