(Forelines) – On Friday, the United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated he was “optimistic” about the future and thought U.S. had the possibility to come to a agreement with Beijing, according to Reuters report.

“This week’s negotiations in Stockholm have advanced our talks with China, and I believe that we have the makings of a deal that will benefit both of our great nations,” according to Reuters, citing Bessent in a post on X it was later removed

“I am optimistic about the path forward,” Bessent further stated, Reuters cited.

In accordance to a Treasury Department spokesman, the piece was reposted because the related pictures hadn’t been submitted properly. In addition, the spokesman noted out that the post’s language matched with Bessent’s remarks from multiple media engagements this week, reported by Reuters.

Secretary Bessent stated, quoted by Reuters that in a Thursday interview with CNBC that while the US considers it has the basic skills of negotiating a trade deal with China, it is “not 100% done.”

As per Reuters, throughout two days of trade meetings with the Chinese in Stockholm this week, U.S. negotiators “pushed back quite a bit,” U.S. Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent told CNBC

After Beijing and Washington made initial agreements in May and June to stop rising tit-for-tat tariffs and a cut-off of rare earth materials, China faces an August 12 deadline to secure a sustainable tariff accord with U.S. President Trump’s administration.
