(Forelines) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday stated that in reaction to threats from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, he had directed the placement of two nuclear submarines in areas close to Russia, according to Reuters report.

Trump stated, cited by Reuters that he ordered the submarines moved “just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that. Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.”
Following U.S. President Trump announced on Tuesday that Moscow had “10 days from now” to adhere to a truce in Ukraine or face tariffs along with its oil importers, he and Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, exchanged insults in recent days, as per the report.
Trump’s ultimatum has not been met by Moscow, which has outlined its own conditions for peace in Ukraine, reported by Reuters.
According to Reuters, after President Trump ordered Medvedev to “check his comments,” Medvedev accused Trump of playing a “game of ultimatums” and reminded him that Russia had nuclear attack capability from the Soviet era as a last resort.
Since Russia committed tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in 2022, Medvedev has become one of the Kremlin’s most vocal opponents of the West. Critics of the Kremlin call him a careless loose cannon, but some Western diplomats claim that his remarks reflect the opinions of senior Kremlin policymakers.
