Indian Prime Minister Modi speaks with Italian PM Meloni

(Forelines) – On Wednesday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone, India’s Ministry of External Afairs said in a statement.

In areas like investment, defense, security, space, science and technology, education, people-to-people relations, and counterterrorism, the leaders examined and praised the advancements in bilateral strategic partnerships.

In accordance with the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29, both leaders reiterated their dedication to strengthening the Partnership.

They also discussed topics of mutual interest on a regional and international level. They both agreed that the issue in Ukraine must be resolved quickly and amicably. PM Modi reaffirmed that India fully supports initiatives in this area.

Prime Minister Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s strong support for the successful hosting of the AI Impact Summit by India in 2026 as well as for the earliest possible conclusion of a mutually beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

As part of the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEEC) plan, the leaders also decided to take action to promote connectivity.

The leaders decided to stay in contact.

“Today I had a phone conversation with the Indian Prime Minister,@narendramodi, during which we expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations, reaffirming our common commitment to further deepen the Italy-India Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, starting from strengthening collaboration in the commercial sector, in matters of investments and connectivity, also through the India, Middle East, Europe Corridor (IMEC),” Italian PM Meloni said in a post on X.
