The Israel Defense Forces reported on Monday that, during a routine operation in Syria, Israeli soldiers discovered the rotor head of an Air Force helicopter that crashed in Syria during the Yom Kippur War.
The “Hatsara” helicopter crashed on April 27, 1974, whille on a mission to rescue injured paratroopers.The six crew members who lost their lives in the accident were later returned to Israel for burial.
Israeli troops reached the mountain recover the rotor head as a gesture of commemoration and tradition. They also searched the area to ensure that there were no personal or significant items were left behind for the bereaved families.
